Pedal4Prostate Returns to Hampton Downs in 2022

We all need some good news about now and the Prostate Cancer Foundation of New Zealand (PCFNZ) has delivered by announcing the 5th running of Pedal4Prostate at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park on Sunday the 13th of March 2022.

This is a unique experience – pedaling around the world class racetrack usually reserved for much faster vehicles, a fun-filled event raising vital funds and building awareness of this devastating disease that affects 1 in 8 Kiwi men.

Cyclists of all ages (over 13) and abilities can take this fantastic opportunity to challenge the clock, their mates or work colleagues in this four-hour cycling endurance race at one of New Zealand’s iconic motorsport tracks.

This awesome event at Hampton Downs was a great success in 2020 attracting 209 riders and raising approximately $110,000 to enable the Foundation to provide vital services to men and their families living with prostate cancer.

Event manager Carol Roche says, “Pedal4Prostate is a popular event that is building year on year to be a can’t miss event enjoyed by serious and recreational cyclists alike.

It’s a great way to enjoy Hampton Downs Motorsport Park under your own horsepower and have heaps of fun both on and off the track”.

Past participant Andrew Mellor says “How many times in life do we get chance to not only ride around New Zealand’s best race circuit but also raise funds for a worthy cause? Last year was a sad time for us as we lost my father to cancer, so I had an extra drive to max out the money raised to hopefully help the next person who needs it”.

“Hampton Downs is very pleased to be supporting Pedal4Prostate and the great work this charity does for prostate cancer research,” says Hampton Downs Commercial Manager, Mike Marsden. “We have been a proud sponsor of Pedal4Prostate for over four years now and look forward to assisting with this year’s event and many more in the future.”

There is new major sponsor for Pedal4Prostate in 2022, premium garage flooring company Swisstrax NZ Ltd. Managing Director Ron Campbell says “After suddenly facing an aggressive prostate cancer diagnosis in December 2020, I was horrified to discover that there is no targeted government funding, research, support, or screening for prostate cancer in NZ.

The Prostate Cancer Foundation of NZ does all this work for men with prostate cancer and relies entirely on the generosity of private and corporate donations and sponsors. I decided that once I could find a balance in my personal journey then I would do something “practical” going forward. Today, with Swisstrax I am grateful to now “give something back” by sponsoring Pedal4prostate”.

PCFNZ Chief Executive Peter Dickens says “we very grateful to both Hampton Downs and Swisstrax for sponsoring this event. Pedal4Prostate is a key date on our prostate cancer awareness and fundraising calendar, and we could not do it without them”.

Peter also says, “next year’s Pedal4Prostate is more important than ever as so many of our fundraising events have been cancelled or disrupted in 2021”.

“This 4-hour, challenging and fun event raises vital funds and builds awareness of this devastating disease that kills over 650 Kiwi men every year”, says Dickens. “It is a great opportunity to grab your mates for a money-can't-buy experience at Hampton Downs, have some fun and ride like the wind to raise funds to help support blokes living with prostate cancer”.

It’s a fabulous day out on the track for everyone - friends and family, those wanting to beat a personal challenge or to pitch yourself against friends & workmates. You’ll be doing it alongside some of our ambassadors like multiple World Masters Cycling Champion, Jim McMurray, and other high-profile personalities.

If you have a bike, including an electric one, you can help support men and their families going through this devastating experience of prostate cancer by joining in the annual Pedal4Prostate cycling event at Hampton Downs on Sunday 13th March. (Highlands in Central Otago on the 26th of March).
