Race Car Test Days are an opportunity for drivers to test their race cars on the National Circuit.
The days operate from 9am – 4pm and are scheduled periodically throughout the year.
Cars will be grouped by speed as follows:
- Slow 1.22+
- 1.15 – 1.22
- Under 1.15
- Open Wheelers/Sportscars
- Karts (not on all Race Car Test Days) -
Please note that the groups and session times may vary depending on the speed/number of cars on the day.
You will be required to have a transponder on your car. No transponder, no track entry.
All sessions are 15 minutes long, giving each driver at least five 15 minute sessions on track.
You will need to fill out an Indemnity form before you can go on track. You can do this prior to arrival by clicking on the link in your confirmation email.
Important Information:
- Please do not book into a speed group that you do not belong to. If there are no spaces in your speed group, please call us on 09 280 6504.
- Bookings close at 4pm the day prior. Walk ins may be accepted, subject to availability - Walk ins can expect to pay a premium price.
- This is not a promoter's event, if you have booked a garage with them but not with us, you will not be allocated a garage for the test day.
- Any additional drivers are $50 each and will need all the same safety gear as the driver. Additional drivers can sign up on the day.
- Hampton Downs Motorsport Park reserves the right to refuse or revoke any entrant at any time.

No, although you can pay $50 for an additional driver to drive your car or kart.
We do 5 x sessions per category for 15 minutes. The laps depend on the speed that you are going.
You and all other drivers will need either a valid civil license of restricted or higher, or a Motorsport NZ (MSNZ) License. Your car must also hold a current MSNZ Logbook.
To test a kart on our Race Car Test Day you will need either a MSNZ License, a valid NZTA restricted license (or higher) or a senior Kartsport license.
Yes, the car must have a MSNZ Logbook and you must wear an FHR (Frontal Head Restraint), which may require a harness bar to be installed in your vehicle.
You will require a full kit including; Helmet, FHR, fire retardant gloves, suit, and boots.
No, it is not. This is a chance to test your car before a race day.
If your car does not have a transponder, you will not be permitted to enter the track.
