The prior record ws 1:00.497 held by Steve Ross in a McRae GM1-009 Formula 5000. This record was made at the NZ Festival of Motor Racing celebrating BMW Motorsport on the 22nd January 2012 during race 51. His top speed during the race was 268.15km per hour.
An earlier record was 1:01.846 held by Mitch Evans. Evans clocked in at set on lap 12 of the second race. He broke the previous record during the NZ 2010 Motor Cup in a Formula Toyota.
The first record was 1:02.279 held by a Lola T430 Formula 5000, driven by Kenny Smith. This record was made at the NZ Festival of Motor Racing celebrating Bruce McLaren on the 23rd January 2010. Smith’s highest speed was 257.30 kph and he completed the 8 lap race in only 9:55.174
